Pangang Research Institute develops new titanium white products for ink

On January 21, it was reported that the Ansteel Group's Pangang Research Institute successfully completed an industrial trial for new titanium dioxide products specifically designed for inks. The trial produced a total of 148 tons of the new special titanium dioxide, and the product quality met all the expected standards. Pangang has been working on developing titanium dioxide products for ink applications since 2012. After three years of dedicated research and development, the company overcame several key technological challenges, enabling the lab samples to reach performance levels comparable to imported similar products such as TR52. Building on this success, Pangang conducted engineering application tests, during which the product demonstrated excellent performance in terms of paint film dispersibility, gloss, hiding power, and whiteness. It is worth noting that with the continuous advancement of ink technology, the paint film thickness used in printing inks—especially surface printing inks—has been decreasing. At the same time, the demand for atmospheric aging resistance has also increased significantly. Before this development, there were no specialized titanium white products available in China for surface printing inks. This new breakthrough fills a critical gap in the domestic market and positions Pangang as a leader in high-performance ink materials. The successful trial marks a major milestone in the company’s efforts to innovate and meet the evolving needs of the ink industry. It not only enhances Pangang’s competitive edge but also supports the long-term development of the Chinese ink sector by providing high-quality, locally produced alternatives to imported materials.
