Pangang Research Institute develops new titanium white products for ink
On January 21, it was reported that the Pangang Research Institute of Ansteel Group successfully completed an industrial trial for new titanium dioxide products specifically designed for inks. During the trial, a total of 148 tons of the advanced titanium dioxide product was produced, and the quality met all the expected standards. This marks a significant milestone in the company's efforts to develop high-performance materials for the printing industry.
Since 2012, Pangang has been actively working on developing titanium dioxide products tailored for ink applications. After three years of dedicated research and development, the team successfully overcame several key technological challenges. The laboratory samples achieved performance levels comparable to imported products such as TR52. Building on this success, Pangang conducted engineering application tests, during which the product demonstrated excellent performance in terms of paint film dispersibility, gloss, hiding power, and whiteness—reaching a level that meets industry expectations.
It is worth noting that with the continuous advancement of ink technology, the thickness of the paint film used in printing inks, especially surface printing inks, has been decreasing. At the same time, the demand for atmospheric aging resistance has increased significantly. Prior to this breakthrough, there were no specialized titanium white products available in China for surface printing inks. This new development fills a critical gap in the domestic market and enhances the competitiveness of Chinese manufacturers in the global ink industry.
With this achievement, Pangang is not only strengthening its position in the specialty chemical sector but also contributing to the long-term sustainability and innovation of the printing industry. The successful trial paves the way for large-scale production and broader application of these high-quality titanium dioxide products in various ink formulations.
