Abstract: Proper design and layout of a sterilization supply department play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of disinfection and reducing the risk of hospital-acquired infections. As a central hub responsible for supplying sterile medical instruments across the entire hospital, the sterilization supply room is often referred to as the "heart" of the facility, since its performance directly impacts the overall standard of patient care. With the rapid development of China's healthcare industry, the construction and management of the sterilization supply system must keep pace with modern medical demands. In recent years, the widespread use of disposable sterile products and the increasing diversity of medical items have raised new challenges in managing the sterilization process effectively. Ensuring that the sterilization supply system is standardized, systematic, and efficient has become a key focus for hospitals. In response to the growing need for advanced sterilization practices, our hospital leadership conducted extensive research on domestic and international best practices, aligning with the guidelines set forth by the Ministry of Health’s Hospital Disinfection Supply Room Acceptance Standards. Drawing inspiration from leading sterilization facilities both within and outside the country, we designed and constructed a two-story, independent garden-style sterilization supply center. After two years of planning, testing, and implementation, the facility was officially launched in May 2001. The project not only improved the efficiency and safety of sterilization processes but also provided a solid foundation for the hospital’s high-quality medical services, education, and research activities. The success of this initiative has served as a model for other institutions looking to modernize their sterilization systems.
