How to use packaged products to achieve maximum economic benefits

“Under the circular economy system, packaging waste can also release huge economic benefits. We organized more than 500,000 jobs for the scavengers in Brazil by organizing individual scavengers to collect various types of packaging waste. A monthly income of at least 270 US dollars was reached.” At the International Forum on Packaging Circular Economy of Packaging Waste held on the 9th, Wei Hener, president of the Brazilian Enterprise Recycling Association, introduced the above situation.

On the same day, the China Packaging Federation’s Circular Economy Professional Committee was formally established, which indicates that China's packaging industry has taken a substantial step toward the development of a recycling economy. "The establishment of a circular economy professional committee will promote the establishment of a highly efficient use and recycling of resources in the packaging industry, with the principle of 'reduction, reuse, recycling (3R)', and the least in the production of packaging products. Resources and environmental costs to achieve the greatest social and economic benefits,” said Shi Wanpeng, president of the China Packaging Federation.

Statistics from the National Development and Reform Commission show that in 2004, the total output value of China's packaging industry was 328.3 billion yuan, which has become the largest producer of packaging products after the United States and Japan. Of the approximately 200 million tons of domestic waste produced each year in China, about 40 million tons are packaged.

However, as pointed out by Director of the Environment and Resources Comprehensive Utilization Department of the National Development and Reform Commission, Qin Qing, the current recycling rate of China's entire packaging products is less than 20% of the total packaging products, which is far below the average recovery rate of 50% to 60% in developed countries. This not only caused a serious waste of resources, but also caused a heavy environmental load. He disclosed that the relevant departments of the state are studying and formulating the “Administrative Measures for the Recycling of Packaging Materials”.

Experts pointed out that under the framework of circular economy development, packaging should fully consider the impact of packaging on its resources, energy, and ecological environment throughout its life cycle, encourage the use of renewable materials, and reduce the environment of packaging materials. load. In addition, at the stage of recycling and utilization of packaging waste, it is necessary to re-use and prevent secondary pollution in accordance with relevant national environmental protection standards and technical specifications.

According to reports, the newly formed Packaging Federation Circular Economy Committee is a cross-regional, cross-sectoral national industry organization, will focus on the life cycle of packaging products, cultivate conservation-oriented, sustainable development concepts and models, promote packaging recovery use. The committee will draw on the model in which Brazilian companies, governments and environmental organizations work together to promote the marketization and organization of waste recycling, as well as the European government’s legislation to encourage companies to participate in the model to improve the level of recycling of packaging waste, combining the characteristics of the Chinese society and the market. Promote the establishment of China's circular economy industrial chain.
