Sterile paper bottles - upstart in the aseptic packaging family

Tetra Pak, the world's leading supplier of food and beverage processing and packaging systems, recently announced the release of Tetra Pak's aseptic packaging - the world's first sterile paper bottle.

Tetra Pak Aptiva aseptic packaging combines a paper bottle body with a plastic top and a screw cap. This is a very unique and innovative ambient temperature package. Tetra Pak Aptiva sterile paper bottles are suitable for the fast growing portable ready-to-drink beverage market distributed through vending machines, convenience stores, supermarkets and other retail channels. The package has a distinctive semi-cylindrical body, with a wide, easy-to-drink opening at the top of the plastic and a screw cap that can be re-opened.

Pascual, a major manufacturer of milk, beverages and foods in Spain, has selected Tetra Pak as a packaging for its Scapy products. Launched in November 2005, Scapy is a new brand for the children's beverage market. It is a blend of juice and milk, rich in vitamins, and is targeted at children aged 8 to 14 years.

Trend.” In the market tests conducted in Europe and Asia, consumers responded positively to the Tetra Aptiva sterile paper bottle. Among them, the most prominent was its “high-value image” and some unique features, such as: Open caps for ergonomic grips and more. During the testing process, consumers praised the “transparency” of the Tetra Aptiva sterile paper bottle plastic crown.

Jerry Bunston, Tetra Pak's vice president of high temperature products for ambient temperature paper packaging, said, "The Tetra Aptiva sterile paper bottle provides a low-cost solution for new and existing customers. For customers who are using ambient temperature paper packaging, They can naturally over-expand to Tetra Aptiva sterile paper bottles, and can also enjoy the many benefits of Tetra Pak products. Tetra Pak Aptiva sterile paper bottles can be produced on the newly designed Tetra Pak A5 filling machine, which can be manufactured in both personal and family sizes. Both models can be used to package juice drinks, non-carbonated drinks and liquid dairy products. Individual models can produce 12,000 bags per hour, while family models can produce 10,000 bags per hour.

The Tetra Pak A5 uses an innovative filling and forming system that uses familiar rolls of paper-based packaging materials and prefabricated plastic top components. The first step in the bottle forming and filling process is to seal the paper around the axis of the paper-based packaging material so as to form a very precise bottle body and then fuse it with the prefabricated top crown. In this system, the plastic double crowns were placed in two halves and placed on the mandrel wheel respectively, and the paper bottle body was placed on top crown and mandrel wheels. The induction sealing process firmly fuses the two parts together.

The disinfection process is carried out by Tetra Pak's unique hydrogen peroxide-based process. After filling, nitrogen is sprayed inside the package with the goal of minimizing the oxygen content before the final package. Finally, the finalization procedure, which is when the packaging is completed, is to fold out the unique shape and bottom of the Tetra Aptiva sterile paper bottle.

Tetra Aptiva sterile paper bottles have excellent carton barrier properties, ensuring that the oxygen-sensitive products such as fruit juices have a long shelf life (minimum six months). The transparent polypropylene crown allows consumers to see what's inside. It contains a layer of oxygen barrier. The paper bottles used to hold liquid dairy products use translucent polyethylene crowns to block the entrance of light.

Tetra Pak will provide all Tetra Aptiva sterile paper bottle customers with a full range of services as part of their one-stop solution. Tetra Pak also provides a complete packaging line for Aptiva sterile paper bottles, including the previous design, the final installation of the production line, as well as plastic crowns and packaging materials.

During the initial product promotion period, only some customers in Europe can obtain Tetra Pak sterile bottle. For fruit juice beverages and non-carbonated beverage products, 2006 will be launched in two sizes of 330ml and 500ml with a transparent polypropylene top crown; for liquid dairy products, a translucent polyethylene top crown will be launched in 2007. A Tetra Aptiva sterile paper bottle of 1000 ml size. Since 2008, the product will be launched throughout the world.
