Agfa launches screening proofing technology for newspapers

Agfa's Balanced Screening Technology (ABS) was used for newspaper proofing to generate color proofs with dots on Agfa's Sherpa six-color inkjet system. Samples of 85 or 100 lpi were output on an inkjet proofer, simulating the dots generated in newspaper printing. In addition to accurately reproducing the printed quality of newspapers after screening, ABS also makes it possible to predict whether or not scanning moiré and moiré will occur. In ABS, there are multiple options, users can flexibly switch between error-diffused screening and ABS technology, which is mainly dependent on specific needs.

Agfa's Sherpa Digital Proofing System uses Agfa's error-diffusion screening technology and color management software to reproduce accurate sample color proofs. These proofs have a smooth continuous-feeling image quality and do not see roughness. The effect of the texture, in the past newspaper printing if the image was screened will see a rough texture, this proofing method allows printers and advertising agencies to see in advance the effect of the final newspaper.

The error diffusion screening technique will show the moiré recorded during the scanning process, but it will not show the moire (main tortoise) produced by the interaction between the main details of the image and the screen frequency. Agfa's Balanced Screening Technology (ABS) can both predict scans and predict the main moiré.

In addition, Agfa's ABS screening process has another advantage. Since the file screening process was performed on the RIP of the Apogee PDF proofer, this RIP uses the same digital interpreter as the Apogee PDF RIP, and they can maintain digital integrity. Apogee PDF proofing machine RIP processes files in exactly the same way as processing plates. Therefore, the simulation on the proof is closer to the simulation on the plate.
