Luxury furniture makes a bold statement in this mid-century home, perfect for design enthusiasts.

A couple reached out to laney la with the goal of preserving a mid-century home in Los Angeles’ Silver Lake neighborhood. While the single-family house was charming and located in a prestigious hillside community, it wasn’t large enough to accommodate their growing family. Instead of expanding the structure, they chose to reconfigure the existing spaces to make the home more functional and livable.

The new office space benefits from a picture window at the base of the stairs, allowing natural light to flood the area and enhance the overall ambiance.

In addition to creating a dedicated workspace, they also needed a guest bedroom. To maximize the limited space, they installed a custom desk and shelf system, along with a couch that can be converted into a guest bed. The full-length bed slides through the wall and is hidden behind a custom bed frame in another room, while a barn door provides privacy when needed.

Thanks to recessed headers, the homeowners were able to install taller doors and windows, offering better access to the stunning hillside views.

Boutique carpenter Board & Block crafted a walnut plywood bed with integrated nightstands for the master bedroom, along with several other custom pieces. Clerestory windows were added to the new master bedroom, as well as built-in storage solutions for added functionality.

The front door was moved three feet closer to the street, and an interior hallway was removed to create a new master suite, improving both flow and aesthetics.
