Lighter weight injection tube

The new 1-2Tube represents a significant advancement in the design and manufacturing of plastic tubes. It features fewer processing steps and offers greater flexibility in form, making it more efficient and innovative compared to traditional extruded tubes. This product is approximately 40% lighter than standard plastic tubes and allows for a free-form design that can be tailored to specific needs. Developed by entrepreneur Rinze Willemsen and injection molding expert Corné van Baal, the 1-2Tube is produced using a single injection molding tool. This process enables the simultaneous creation of the tube and its hinged lid, reducing complexity and production time. The filling line then fills the tube from the top, after which the lid is sealed using an ultrasonic device. Rinze explains that the thinner walls of the tube during injection molding contribute to its lightweight nature. Additionally, the lid uses less material because it is not screwed or snapped on but rather sealed directly. Unlike conventional tubes, the 1-2Tube does not require threading or additional components, further simplifying the design. Corné adds that while single-piece injection-molded tubes exist in the market, they often suffer from slow production speeds and licensing constraints. Moreover, they still require assembly. In contrast, the 1-2Tube is made from a single piece, with only three main steps: injection molding, filling, and sealing. With IML (In-Mold Labeling), labels can be added during the injection process, enhancing both efficiency and aesthetics. To achieve competitive pricing, the team plans to use a 60-cavity tool, starting with a smaller test tool for initial production. Appkuns has developed four different designs for the 1-2Tube, each offering unique advantages. The "basic" design is optimized for functionality, while the "ecology" version features a flat lid that reduces material usage by up to 40%. The "elegant" design showcases the full potential of the technology, allowing for creative shapes like cones, tilts, and asymmetries. The "special" design even allows for the combination of different materials, such as polypropylene, to meet diverse application needs.
