According to Professor Wang Hongyan, the organizer of the Institute of Automotive Engineering at Tongji University, children traveling on a vehicle are usually riding alone or with the arms of a parent. The seat belts provided in the car do not match. In the event of a violent collision or rollover accident, the chance of a child’s physical injury or death is very high. Drawing on foreign experience, Tongji University’s School of Automotive, jointly with Xinhua Hospital and Shanghai Jiaotong University’s Children’s Research Center, conducts research on children’s car safety facilities at different ages. On the basis of achieving certain results, it will fight for the next year to submit the relevant laws and regulations of the Municipal People's Congress to mandatory implementation of child safety seats for passenger cars traveling on Shanghai roads.
